St. Joseph Trading Cards
First it was baseball cards, then it was Pokémon cards…and now it's the St. Joseph Trading Cards.
The Museums Association of St. Joseph, in an effort to get visitors not only through their doors, but to also take a piece of history with them, designed a Collectible Trading Card Program. The museums kicked off Series 1 of the limited edition Trading Cards over the 2011 Memorial weekend and have seen attendance figures go up, with visitors coming in looking for the cards. Visitors are given an opportunity to learn about real people, places and items that are connected to St. Joseph and Northwest Missouri. This colorful set of cards can be collected, traded and used for in school and out of school learning.
The group continues to promote its limited edition Trading Cards and plans to focus on one museum a month during 2012. The month of February highlights the Pony Express National Museum. Among other information, the card features the fact that the Pony Express employed 185 riders (ages 11-18) who were paid $100 per month.
Trading cards can be collected at participating museums, SJ Visitors Center and the Northwest Missouri Geneology Library. One free card is available with a paid family admission. Plans are being made to release a new series of cards over the 2012 Memorial Weekend. For more information call one of the locations below or St. Joseph Visitors Bureau at 816-233-6688
